Trailing 44-42 with 5.7 seconds left, Waldron found Jack Fischer wide open in the corner and the senior hit a 3-pointer to produce a 45-44 victory Saturday over Southwestern.
In a tightly-contested contest, Ben Kahler led Southwestern with 17 points and Mitchell Clements finished with 14 but it was not enough to put away the Mohawks.
Eli Stewart scored half of his team-high 12 points in the final quarter. Lucas Shaw finished with 10. Max Jones had nine and Fischer had seven, including the game winner.
Shaw took the inbounds pass at mid-court and dribbled to the right side of the line where the Southwestern defense collapsed on him. That left Fischer wide open in the corner for an uncontested shot.
Southwestern won the junior varsity game, 47-43. Landon Drake and James Oliver combined to hit six 3s and each scored 15 points.
Jackson Kuhn led Waldron with a game-high 25 points.
Waldron (2-4) and Southwestern (0-5) are part of the 7-team Crothersville Tournament Friday.
The Mohawks open the tournament at 10 a.m. against Rock Creek Academy (6-2). The winner returns to the court at 2:30 p.m. to face New Washington (0-6).
The Spartans square off against Traders Point Christian (3-4) at 1 p.m. If Southwestern wins, it will face either Tri-Township (3-5) or Crothersville (3-4) at 4 p.m. If the Spartans lose their opener, they return Saturday morning for a 10 a.m. against the loser of the Tri-Township/Crothersville game.

Boys basketball
Morristown 76, Blue River Valley 42
At Morristown Saturday afternoon, Colin Kieninger scored a game-high 24 points and three more Yellow Jackets scored in double digits to overpower the Vikings (1-6).
Morristown (2-4) built a 17-8 lead after one quarter and extended it to 39-23 by halftime. Dalton McMichael made four 3s in the second quarter and finished with 18 points.
Kellen Crim had 12 points and Brayden Kiethley added 10.
Morristown will host Indianapolis Herron, Tri-Central and Western Boone Saturday for a holiday tournament. The Yellow Jackets open the semifinal round at noon against Herron (1-5). Tri-Central (4-2) follows against Western Boone (1-6).
The consolation game is scheduled for 5 p.m. with the championship to follow at approximately 7 p.m.
Triton Central 62, North Decatur 44
At Triton Central Saturday, Silas Blair scored a game-high 22 points to help the Tigers break a two-game losing streak.
Eli Sego finished with 14 points and Cael Butler added 13 to improve the Tigers to 4-3.
Triton Central led 39-30 after three quarters then outscored the Chargers 23-14 over the final eight minutes.
Owen Eldridge and Brady Mauer each scored 12 points to lead North Decatur (2-5). The Chargers are off until Jan. 2 when they will face Shelbyville (6-2) in an opening-round game at the Bob Wettig Tournament in Richmond.
On Friday, Triton Central was outscored 18-7 in the fourth quarter and lost 59-49 to potential sectional opponent Christel House.
Sego scored a game-high 23 points but no other Tiger reached double digits in the loss.
Pai’re Loving led the Eagles (4-3) with 12 points. Terrance Meredith finished with 11 and David Brigham Jr. had 10.
Triton Central travels to Greenwood Saturday for the JCBank Holiday Tournament. The Tigers open against the host Woodmen (5-3) at 10 a.m. The other semifinal pits Yorktown (3-4) against Columbus East (5-1).
The consolation game is at 5 p.m. The championship game follows at 7 p.m.
Girls basketball
Waldron 63, Knightstown 56, OT
At Knightstown Saturday afternoon, Waldron trailed 35-27 after three quarters but rallied to tie the game and send it to overtime where it outscored the Panthers 12-5.
Three Mohawks scored in double digits, led by Kiley Best’s 20 points. Emerson Lindsey followed with 17 and Alivia Fischer finished with 14.
Anna Roberson led Knightstown (8-6) with 22 points.
On Friday at Waldron, a 20-point third quarter led Class A, No. 11 North Decatur to a 63-44 Mid-Hoosier Conference victory over the Mohawks.
Fischer topped Waldron with 10 points, three rebounds and two steals. Kacey Barker had eight points and three assists. Best scored seven points and added three rebounds and three assists.
Carmen Thackery led North Decatur (7-4) with 16 points.
Waldron will host a 4-team holiday tournament Friday. The Mohawks (5-7) open against Franklin County (4-7) at 10 a.m. in a semifinal contest.
The second semifinal pits Hamilton Heights (3-10) against Union County (8-3).
The consolation game and championship game will both be played at 4 p.m.
Indianapolis Lutheran 51, Southwestern 24
At Lutheran Friday, Madison Rogers racked up 16 points, six rebounds and four steals to lead the Saints to the win.
Amelia Hughes added 14 points, six rebounds and 12 steals to improve Lutheran to 3-6.
Southwestern lost its eighth straight to fall to 2-11.
The Spartans are off until Jan. 2 when they will compete in the 8-team Johnson Memorial Health Classic in Edinburgh. Southwestern is in the final quarterfinal round game at 4 p.m. against Class 2A, No. 4 Austin (12-1). The Spartans will play a second game on Jan. 2 against either Columbus HomeSchool or Class A, No. 16 Shawe Memorial (9-3).
