Prep Report: Haney leads Triton Central to Indiana Crossroads Conference sweep of Beech Grove

Bryce Haney allowed five hits and struck out 10 to lead Triton Central to a two-game sweep of Beech Grove.

Haney pitched all six innings Thursday and benefited from the Tigers (2-0) scoring twice in the third and three times in the fourth.

Haney, a Wabash College commit, also had three hits, scored three runs and drove in three. Hayden May and Kellan Dishman each had two hits. Ty Bergman and Kail Slaughter each drove in two runs.

Triton Central hosts Shelbyville (1-1) tonight in Fairland.

Baseball

New Palestine 4, Shelbyville 1

At New Palestine, the Dragons pushed a pair of insurance runs across the plate in the sixth inning to earn a split of the Hoosier Heritage Conference twinbill.

Jacob Morris and Jesse Isaacs combined to limit Shelbyville to three hits and struck out six. Gavin Neal had two hits and Morris scored two runs.

Dalton Jones took the loss for Shelbyville. The Olney Central commit pitched three innings, allowed one hit and five walks while striking out two.

Gavin Reed pitched the final three innings and allowed three hits and two runs.

Shelbyville is at Triton Central tonight.

Southwestern 8, South Decatur 7

At Southwestern, the victorious Spartans held off a furious comeback attempt to secure their first win of the season.

South Decatur scored three runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh to tie the game, before the Spartans (1-1) plated a run in the bottom half of the inning to collect the Mid-Hoosier Conference victory.

Isaac Bunch and Kaden Barlow combined to strike out 15 Cougars in the win. Bunch had 12 strikeouts in 5.2 innings before Barlow closed out the game and earned the victory.

Barlow, Titus Kehrbach and James Oliver each had two hits for Southwestern. Barlow drove in five runs with a pair of doubles.

The Spartans and Cougars complete the MHC twinbill today at South Decatur (0-1).

North Decatur 13, Morristown 0

At Morristown, Nolan Burkhart and Xander Jones each had two hits and drove in two runs to secure the Chargers’ first win of the season.

Matthew Fields earned the MHC win for North Decatur (1-1), allowing no hits and striking out seven.

Morristown dropped to 0-2 this season. The Yellow Jackets are at North Decatur today.

Boys golf

Mt. Vernon 168, Shelbyville 186

Mt. Vernon’s Elijah Lemmons posted the low round of 38 to lead the Marauders past the Golden Bears in their season opener.

Jake Garrison led Shelbyville with a 41. Logan Reinhart shot 43. Brock Wischmeyer followed at 44 and Ethan Hughes posted 58.

Mt. Vernon won the junior varsity match, 196-208. Kason Travnicek led Shelbyville with a 47.

Greenwood 160, Triton Central Black 188, Triton Central Green 210

Triton Central’s Chase Chandler was co-medalist with a 38. Joining him on the TC Black team were Derreck Uhls (44), Garrett Eberhardt (51), Colton Ayres (55) and Taggy Goul (55).

Max Crouse topped the TC Green scorecard with a 45. Chance Uhls shot 52. Jackson Faust (56), Ryder Trimble (57) and Sam Collier (59) completed the roster.

Softball

North Decatur 11, Morristown 5

At Morristown, Libby Crawford and Carmen Thackery each had three hits and combined to drive in three runs to lead North Decatur (1-1) to the MHC win.

Elizabeth Meister and Kendall Hostkoetter combined to limit Morristown to five hits. Meister struck out eight in six innings.

Abby Hawk took the loss for Morristown (1-1), allowing six hits and seven runs, only two were earned, while striking out six.

Nevaeh Cox had two hits for Morristown.

The Chargers and Yellow Jackets play again today at North Decatur.

Boys volleyball

Shelbyville def. Whiteland, 25-18, 23-25, 25-21, 19-25, 15-8

At Garrett Gymnasium in Shelbyville, Corbin Drake and Drake Tillison combined for 31 kills to lead the Golden Bears (2-6) to their second victory of the season.

Deck also had four service aces. Jay Kawakami and Harlyn Feathers each had three aces.

Layne Pogue racked up 29 assists.

Whiteland dropped to 1-7.

Shelbyville hosts Heritage Christian (1-2) Saturday.
