With a hat trick from Rory O'Connor and a pair of goals by Aiden Helfer-Vazquez, Shelbyville boys soccer secured a 6-1 victory over South Dearborn Tuesday.
The Knights (3-11-1) scored first before O’Connor got his first goal. The junior gave the Golden Bears the lead for good with a shot to the far post upper corner that beat the Knights’ goalkeeper with less than two minutes remaining in the first half.
Helfer-Vazquez scored two goals in the first two minutes of the second half to extend the lead to 4-1. O’Connor then finished off his hat trick with his third goal.
Jett Suiter completed the scoring for Shelbyville (7-6).
Josue Gil earned the win in the net.
Shelbyville has won three of its last four matches and travels to Greenfield-Central (0-9) Thursday.

Boys tennis
Triton Central 5, Morristown 0
At Morristown, the visiting Tigers improved to 16-2 this season with straight-set wins in four matches. The Yellow Jackets forfeited the No. 3 singles match.
At No. 1 singles, Tucker Hutchinson defeated Dalton McMichael, 6-1, 6-2.
Connor Evans and Max Crouse bested Michael Ballinger and Ruston Kleine, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.
Waldron 4, Batesville 1
Waldron’s No. 1 doubles pairing of Lucas Shaw and Cash Young improved to 10-0 this season with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Deev Ranka and Lincoln Garrett.
Connor Ping and Jackson Kuhn needed three sets at No. 2 doubles to defeat Wes Peters and Owen Westerfeld, 4-6, 6-2, 10-3.
Charlie Fischer and Jack Fischer won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and No. 2 singles, respectively.
Batesville’s Carson Meyer won a three-set match at No. 3 singles over Waldron’s Lincoln Fischer, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
The Mohawks upped their record to 13-4 this season.
Volleyball
Shelbyville def. Lawrence Central, 25-20, 25-12, 25-18
At Lawrence Central, Alivia Lee and Ashlyn Turner combined for 32 kills to lead the Golden Bears to the road victory.
Lee finished with a team-high 17 kills and had three service aces and six digs. Turner collected 15 kills and nine digs.
Kali Laycock produced a team-high 21 digs and Addison Hartman and Addy Marshall directed the offense with a combined 35 assists.
Shelbyville ended a five-match losing streak and improved to 5-14. Lawrence Central dropped to 3-14.
Southwestern def. Hauser, 26-24, 25-15, 25-17
At Southwestern, Tanna Tatlock had 16 kills, two service aces and 20 digs to lead the Spartans to the Mid-Hoosier Conference victory.
Ruby Garner finished with 10 kills and two aces and 10 digs. Kelsey Stringer added five aces.
The Spartans improved to 13-9 (2-1 MHC).
Hauser fell to 4-18 (1-2 MHC).
South Decatur def. Waldron, 25-19, 25-16, 25-9
At South Decatur, Lilli Lozier led Waldron with four kills, three aces and seven digs.
Jackie Corlett and Alivia Fischer each had three kills. Emerson Lindsey and Ashlyn Ramsey finished with two aces each. Lindsey had a team-high 17 digs.
Ramsey had 12 assists.
The Mohawks are 1-14 (0-3 MHC).
With the win, South Decatur improved to 15-2 and 5-0 against MHC foes to clinch the program’s first conference championship since 2000.
