Shelbyville baseball is carrying plenty of momentum into the postseason following an 8-4 win Saturday at Southport.

The Golden Bears, 15-8 and winners of 10 of their last 11, scored four runs in the first and added three more in the fourth to secure the win over the Cardinals (7-11).

Luke Brinkman and Grantland Fitzgerald each had three hits in the win. Brock Kuhn and Kohen Myers each drove in two runs.

Dalton Jones earned the win, working two innings and allowing one hit and one walk while striking out two. Brinkman and Prickett also pitched two innings apiece and Aiden Smith faced two batters and secured two outs.

The Golden Bears will host Class 4A, Sectional 14 at Barnett Field this week. Shelbyville drew a bye and will not take the field until the second semifinal game Friday against Columbus East (9-16).

Boys golf

Franklin Central Invitational

At Smock Golf Course in Greenwood, Shelbyville finished seventh overall and Triton Central placed 17th in the 26-team field.

Brock Wischmeyer and Jason Garrison each shot 81 to lead Shelbyville (328). Logan Tobian and Logan Reinhart followed with 83s. Kameron Timberlake rounded out the Shelbyville scorecard with 107.

Triton Central shot 361. Chase Chandler led the Tigers with a 78.

Also on the TC scorecard were Garrett Eberhardt (93), Colton Ayres (93), Derreck Uhls (97) and Max Ray (101).

Softball

Center Grove 5, Shelbyville 0

At Center Grove, the Class 4A, No. 11 Trojans scored three runs in the third inning and Riley Fuhr and Taylor Barrett limited the Golden Bears to just three hits in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Louisville commit Riley Janda had two hits, including a solo home run in the fifth inning, scored two runs and drove in two. Madisyn Tharpe also had two hits and Hannah Haberstroh, an Ohio State recruit, had three hits and drove in two for Center Grove (21-6).

Cheyenne Eads took the loss for Shelbyville (15-0). She allowed seven hits and four runs in four innings of work. Addison Stieneker pitched two innings, allowed three hits and one run.

Sydney Brown had two of Shelbyville’s three hits.

The Golden Bears open Sectional 14 Monday at Columbus East against Columbus North (12-11).
