Prep Report: Shelbyville freshman earns All-HHC honor in cross country

Shelbyville High School freshman Macey Robbins finished 13th in the Hoosier Heritage Conference Championship race Saturday to earn an All-Conference designation.

Robbins completed the Blue River Cross Country Course in Shelbyville in 21 minutes, 31 seconds to lead the Golden Bears.

Pendleton Heights won the HHC title behind the strength of the top two finishers – Ava Jarrell (18:08) and Anya Zoeller (18:47).

Shelbyville finished eighth. Also running for the Golden Bears were Paige O’Connor (37th in 23:22), Aerin Garcia-Santiago (55th in 24:30), Kathryn Seal (58th in 24:45), Avery Keller (65th in 25:19), Cora Flynn (66th in 25:20), Claire Kamplain (68th in 25:26), Haylee Barnes (77th in 27:02), Diana Gasca (80th in 27:12) and Elizabeth Nicolas (88th in 31:40).

With five of the top seven finishers in the boys race, Mt. Vernon was crowned HHC champions.

Pendleton Heights’ Benson Davis won the boys race in 16:01.

Shia Veach led Shelbyville, who finished seventh in the team standings, with a 17th-place finish in 17:31.

Also running for the Golden Bears were Logan Reinhart (31st in 18:18), Blake Hughes (54th in 19:52), Gavin Harker (63rd in 20:38), Ethan Coffey (68th in 20:53), Ryan Chaney (75th in 21:17), Christian Powell (78th in 21:28), Nick Childers (82nd in 21:45), Isaac Zermeno (84th in 21:54), Kendryk Pike (86th in 22:00), Everett Stegemiller (87th in 22:03), Anderson Mollenkopf (90th in 22:11) and Kenneth Wright (96th in 23:01).

Cross country

Hope Heritage Days Classic

Morristown finished fifth in the boys team standings, led by Lakshdeep Singh’s 13th-place finish in 19:14.

Also scoring for Morristown were Ryan Crisman (16th in 19:40), Bradley Theobald (28th in 22:09), Armaan Singh (35th in 23:14) and Evan Trittipo (43rd in 25:02).

Competing for Southwestern were Chris Claiborne (25th in 21:34), Sam Wilson (39th in 23:39) and Max Wilson (40th in 23:57).

Triton Central had two runners – Hunter Franklin (20th in 20:22) and Max Tupper (24th in 21:27).

Morristown did not enter enough runners to produce a team score in the girls race. Grace McLaughlin finished third in 22:31 while Audrey VanDyke was fourth in 22:40. Brooke Kuhn also finished in the top 10 at sixth in 23:15.

Southwestern was represented by Kaylee Pike (24th in 28:08) and Bethany Woodhouse (31st in 34:12).

Girls golf

Lapel Regional

At Edgewood Golf Course, Triton Central’s Kennedy Hall carded a 95 (46-49) in the regional tournament and did not advance to the State Finals.

Shelbyville’s Riley Everette will compete Monday in the Franklin Regional at The Legends Golf Course.

Boys soccer

New Castle 4, Shelbyville 1

At New Castle, Shelbyville’s No. 1 doubles pairing of Aiden Smith and Wyatt Armstrong produced a 6-1, 6-0 victory to finish the regular season with a 17-2 record.

New Castle swept the singles matches in straight sets.

At No. 2 doubles, Aiden Alton and Jack VanWye lost a three-set match, 6-4, 5-7, 10-6.

The Golden Bears finished the regular season at 6-14 (1-6 Hoosier Heritage Conference).

Girls soccer

Monrovia 9, Triton Central 0

At Triton Central, Class A, No. 6 Monrovia scored six goals in the first half and rolled to the Indiana Crossroads Conference victory.

Nellie Standeford and Emery Newlin each scored three goals for the Bulldogs (12-1, 5-0 ICC). Trinity Inglert had two goals and Chelsea Wallace scored in the win.

Triton Central dropped to 8-6 (4-3 ICC).

Volleyball

Delta def. Shelbyville, 25-10, 25-8, 25-16

At Delta, Kyra Murry and Addie Phillippe combined for 21 kills to get the Eagles the HHC victory.

Kate Manor delivered six service aces and 20 assists.

Delta improved to 8-7 (2-4 HHC).

The Golden Bears dropped to 5-16 (0-4 HHC).

Class A Showdown

Morristown closed out the event with a win over Wes-Del after starting 0-3.

The Yellow Jackets (9-15) defeated Wes-Del, 25-20, 25-9. Avery Everhart led Morristown with six kills and three blocks. Katie Theobald finished with 16 assists.

The Yellow Jackets lost to Blue River Valley (25-17, 15-25, 15-10), Springs Valley (25-14, 25-13) and Indianapolis Lutheran (25-8, 25-13).
