The Shelbyville boys golf team captured the Edinburgh Invitational title Saturday with a team score of 304.
Shelbyville’s Jake Garrison (photo, fourth from left) was the medalist with an even-par 72 at Timbergate Golf Course.
Also competing for the Golden Bears in their season-opening event were Brock Wischmeyer (76), Logan Tobian (77), Logan Reinhart (79) and DaMiles McDuffey (95).
Waldron also competed in the event and was led by Lucas Shaw (88) and Isaiah Jones (91).

Baseball
Shelbyville 11, East Central 3
At East Central Friday, Gavyn Fisher delivered five strong innings on the mound and blasted his first home run of the season to improve the Golden Bears to 2-0.
Fisher worked five innings, allowed one hit and one run while striking out six. Luke Jackson and Dalton Jones combined to pitch the final two innings to preserve the win.
Aiden Smith had three hits including his first home run of the season. Brayden Smith also had three hits. Donavon Martin drove in three runs.
Triton Central 10, South Decatur 1
In the first game of a doubleheader Saturday in Fairland, Bryce Haney surrendered one hit and struck out 11 Cougars to get the Tigers their first victory of the season.
Blaine Raider and Brayden Hoover each pitched a scoreless inning of relief work.
Triton Central scored seven times in the fifth inning to break open a close game. Eli Sego, Nick Riggins and Weston Smith each had two hits. Riggins and Smith each had three RBI.
Triton Central 16, South Decatur 2
The Tigers got the bats started early with a nine-run first inning followed by a six-run second inning to cruise to the doubleheader sweep.
Hayden May earned the win, working the first two innings and striking out four. Logan Plew, Ben Toth and Kaleb Murphy each pitched an inning in relief.
May also had two hits, including a home run, and two RBI. Mathew Shircliff had two hits and four RBI.
Morristown 13, Jac-Cen-Del 2
At Morristown Saturday, the host Yellow Jackets scored seven runs in the fifth inning to secure the win over the Eagles.
Jac-Cen-Del (0-1) was limited to two hits over five innings.
Morristown is 1-1 this season.
Switzerland County 12, Southwestern 1
At Southwestern Saturday, four Pacers combined to keep the host Spartans (0-2) hitless. Zayne Smith and Jackson Sparks each pitched two scoreless innings while Kemper Kitts and Roman Hite each worked an inning.
Switzerland County scored three runs in the top of the first and added four more in the second to build an early 7-1 lead.
Cooper Todd had three hits and three RBI for the Pacers (1-0).
Indy Genesis 18, Waldron 3
At Waldron Saturday, starting pitcher Jacob Bennett was dominant in five innings of work in the Mohawks’ season opener. The senior did not allow a hit and just one walk.
A disastrous sixth inning against the Waldron bullpen led to the loss. Indy Genesis scored all 18 runs in the sixth inning to get the victory.
Five different Mohawks had hits. All three runs came in the fourth inning.
Indy Genesis 20, Southwestern 2
At Southwestern Friday, The homeschool squad scored 14 runs in the second inning to pin a season-opening loss on the host Spartans.
Davin Altoff, Keyton Smith, Brandon Harlow and Carson Howard each had two hits for the visitors. Kris Coy and Howard each had three RBI.
Boys volleyball
Madison def. Shelbyville, 15-25, 25-8, 25-21, 21-25, 15-8
At Garrett Gymnasium Saturday morning, the host Golden Bears rallied to force a fifth set before falling to the Cubs.
Jayion Grice led Shelbyville (0-3) with 11 kills and 27 digs. Corbin Deck had seven kills and 19 digs.
Diego Hernandez finished with 18 kills, three service aces and six digs.
North Putnam def. Shelbyville, 25-21, 22-25, 28-26, 25-16
At North Putnam Friday, Deck finished with a team-high 10 kills for the Golden Bears. The junior also had three aces and six digs.
