Prep Report: Shelbyville golf posts season-best score to defeat Columbus East

Shelbyville junior golfer Riley Everette earned her first medalist honor of her career Tuesday. Two days later, she added a second award.

Everette (photo, left) and teammate Emmie Higgins (photo, right) each shot 48 Thursday at Blue Bear Golf Course in Shelbyville to share the medalist honor and lead the Golden Bears to a win over Columbus East, 197-209.

Shelbyville’s team score was a season best and produced with season-best rounds from Sophia Asher (49) and Maddy Jones (52). Kylie Stader rounded out the scorecard with a 61.

Grace Losell led Columbus East with a 49.

Girls golf

Southwestern 204, Pike Inc.

At Saddlebrook Golf Club, Aurora Belton posted the best score by a Shelby County golfer this season to lead the Spartans.

Belton’s 41 earned her a second medalist honor this season. She was followed on the Spartans’ scorecard by Sydney Griffin (48), Taryn Hoeing (51), Emma Chandler (64) and Olivia Lahey (66) – all season best scores.

Bianka McKenzie was the only Pike golfer Thursday. She shot 62.

Boys soccer

Madison 2, Shelbyville 1

At Madison, the host Cubs (4-1-1) stole the win with a pair of second-half goals.

Diego Hernandez scored Shelbyville’s lone goal in the first half. Goalkeeper Nathan Tweedy was credited with nine saves for Shelbyville (3-3).

Madison won the junior varsity match, 3-0.

Southwestern 1, Bethesda Christian 0

At Southwestern, the Class A, No. 9 Spartans’ only goal came off a corner kick with 31 minutes, 27 seconds left in the contest.

Jace Patterson delivered the corner kick on goal and Josh Karr finished the game winner for his fourth goal of the season.

Michael Clements had nine saves in goal for Southwestern (6-0).

Bethesda Christian dropped to 2-2-1.

Girls soccer

Shelbyville 7, Indian Creek 0

At Shelbyville, Ava VanWye scored the first two goals to jump start the Golden Bears, who built a 5-0 lead by halftime and cruised to the victory.

Shelbyville improved to 4-3 while Indian Creek remained winless at 0-6.

Triton Central 3, Indianapolis Ritter 0

At Ritter, Farah Coen scored a pair of goals and Brynne Aukerman had a goal and an assist in the Tigers’ shutout victory over the Raiders.

Triton Central improved to 4-3 (2-1 Indiana Crossroads Conference) and has won three straight.

Ritter is 1-4-1 (0-1 ICC).

Boys tennis

Triton Central 4, Indianapolis Scecina 1

At Scecina, Janssen Capps and Bradyn Robinson did not lose a game in winning singles matches and TC’s doubles teams lost a total of one game in their matches.

Scecina’s only win came at No. 1 singles where Matthew Guarnieri defeated Tucker Hutchinson, 6-4, 6-3.

Capps improved to 9-1 at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kenton Miller. Robinson is now 8-3 at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Andrew Wilhelm.

Max Crouse and Connor Evans remain unbeaten at No. 1 doubles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Nate Wilhelm and Cole Gaudreau.

At No. 2 doubles, Brayden Hoover and Talan Canter defeated Taggart Henderson and Garrison Gray, 6-0, 6-0.

Triton Central improved to 7-1.

Junior varsity match winners for Triton Central were Drayton Kermode, Colton Ayres, Cash Eck and the doubles pairing of Jason Gregory and Brylon Scott.

New Palestine 4, Shelbyville 1

At Shelbyville, Kody Sellers secured the Golden Bears’ only win when New Palestine’s Brady Torzewski injury defaulted the match at No. 3 singles.

At No. 1 singles, Shelbyville’s Reece Prickett won the first set but lost the next two to fall to Arjomand Khokhar, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.

Joey McPike defeated Kashton Laycock at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1.

Aiden Smith and Wyatt Armstrong suffered their second loss of the season at No. 1 doubles, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 to Moses Haynes and Max Havel.

Andrew Hahn and Carson Rush bested Owen Hartman and Jack VanWye at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 6-3.

New Palestine improved to 9-1 (4-0 Hoosier Heritage Conference). Shelbyville dropped to 2-8 (1-3 HHC).

Volleyball

Southwestern def. Edinburgh, 25-22, 25-16, 23-25, 25-27, 15-11

At Southwestern, Tanna Tatlock and Ruby Garner combined for 49 kills to lead the Spartans to the Mid-Hoosier Conference victory.

Tatlock finished with 27 kills and 38 digs in the five-set match. Garner had 22 kills, four service aces and 30 digs.

The Spartans (8-6, 2-0 MHC) have won five of their last six matches. Edinburgh is 1-12 (0-3 MHC).

Knightstown def. Waldron, 25-16, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19

At Waldron, Lanee Swindell led the visiting Panthers (2-5) with 13 kills. Ary Guzman and Jaycie Cole each had six aces.

Lilli Lozier finished with 10 kills, 18 digs and one ace for Waldron (1-8). Lauren Strehle collected 24 assists, five aces and three digs.

Oldenburg Academy def. Morristown, 25-16, 25-13, 25-12

At Oldenburg Academy, Avery Everhart led the visiting Yellow Jackets (4-6) with six kills.

Zoey Coons and Kindall Dorsey each had a team-high seven digs. Katie Theobald finished with 10 assists.

Oldenburg Academy improved to 4-2.

Indianapolis Lutheran def. Triton Central, 25-19, 25-18, 11-25, 25-12

At Triton Central, Adele Evans led the visiting Saints with 16 kills. Zoe Sondag finished with 12 kills.

Cathryn Erwin led Lutheran (6-4, 3-1 ICC) with 22 digs while Reagan Crabtree and Shaefer Scearce combined for 38 assists.

The loss dropped Triton Central to 7-4 (2-1 ICC).
