Prep Report: Shelbyville golf posts season-low score in win over Whiteland

Jake Garrison and Brock Wischmeyer each shot 38 to lead Shelbyville golf to a dual match win over Whiteland Tuesday at Blue Bear Golf Club, 158-193.

The Golden Bears’ team score was a season best.

Logan Tobian followed the co-medalists with a 40. DaMiles McDuffey and Ethan Hughes each shot 42.

Baseball

Triton Central 8, Indianapolis Lutheran 2

At Triton Central, the host Tigers took advantage of five Lutheran errors to never trail in a win that secured at least a share of the Indiana Crossroads Conference title.

Class 2A, No. 4 Triton Central (21-3, 12-1 ICC) got another strong performance on the mound from Hayden May, who allowed just three hits and struck out 10.

Mathew Shircliff had two hits and scored three runs. Brayden Hoover and Kellan Dishman each drove in two runs.

Hudson Mills took the loss for Lutheran (12-12, 9-4 ICC).

Greenfield-Central 5, Shelbyville 0

At Greenfield-Central, Landon Brooks tossed a one-hitter and struck out seven to bring an end to the Golden Bears’ 8-game win streak.

Gavin Markus had two hits and drove in two runs to lead the Cougars (10-11, 7-6 Hoosier Heritage Conference).

Aiden Smith took the loss for Shelbyville (13-8, 8-5 HHC). The sophomore pitched 5.1 innings and allowed six hits and three walks while striking out seven.

Softball

Shelbyville 6, Carmel 0

At Shelbyville, the Golden Bears scored four runs in the first inning without a hit and Addison Stieneker added a two-run home run in the fifth inning to send four seniors out with a win on Senior Night.

Carmel starting pitcher Emily Smith hit Cheyenne Eads to start the bottom of the first inning then walked the next four hitters before settling down. Addysyn Wettrick’s  ground out plated the fourth run to spot Eads an early lead.

Eads allowed four hits and walked three while striking out 12 to push the Golden Bears to 15-8 this season.

Stieneker’s home run, her sixth of the season, was Shelbyville’s only hit off Smith.

Carmel lost its sixth straight to drop to 8-20.

Shelbyville is at Class 4A, No. 4 Indianapolis Cathedral (22-3) Thursday.

Girls track and field

Franklin Sectional

Track and field athletes from Southwestern and Waldron did not secure a top-3 finish at the sectional to advance to the regional round, bringing an end to their seasons.

Waldron’s Riley Price finished 10th in the 300-meter hurdles in 56.43.
