Shelbyville built a 17-point lead by halftime then fought off a comeback rally to defeat New Palestine 42-38 Tuesday night at William L. Garrett Gymnasium.
The Golden Bears opened up a 27-10 lead at halftime with a strong second-quarter performance that saw them outscore the Dragons 17-2.
New Palestine (5-4, 1-2 Hoosier Heritage Conference) responded with an 18-point third quarter then outscored Shelbyville 10-5 over the final eight minutes, but it was not enough to secure the conference victory.
Jayla Ash, Hannah Baker and Maddy Jones each scored 11 points for Shelbyville (4-4, 1-0 HHC). Savannah Collins had eight points which helped the Golden Bears break a 3-game losing streak.
Gabrielle Brown led the Dragons with 17 points, including 12 in the third quarter.
New Palestine won the junior varsity game, 50-39.
Shelbyville travels to New Castle Friday for a HHC varsity-only contest with the Trojans (3-7, 0-3 HHC). Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the varsity boys basketball programs following at approximately 7:30 p.m.

At Southwestern Tuesday, Lilly Drew and Anna Roberson combined for 36 points and 15 rebounds to improve the Panthers’ record to 5-4 this season.
Drew finished with a game-high 21 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out three assists and collected four steals in the win. Osborne had 15 points, seven rebounds and six steals.
Tanna Tatlock led the Spartans (2-8) with 17 points, 17 rebounds and two steals.
Southwestern hosts Triton Central Saturday.
Triton Central 66, Indianapolis Scecina 21
At Triton Central Monday, three Tigers scored in double digits to secure the Indiana Crossroads Conference victory.
Maryrose Felling scored a game-high 20 points. Quinn King finished with 15 and Sophia Burbrink had 10 to improve Triton Central to 4-5 (2-1 ICC) this season.
Ainsley Brown led Scecina (2-5, 0-4 ICC) with seven points. Mia Miller collected 13 rebounds.
The Tigers led 31-13 at halftime then outscored the Crusaders 28-5 in the third quarter.
Triton Central is at Southwestern (2-8) Saturday.
