Aiden Smith and Wyatt Armstrong will play for a tennis sectional championship today at Center Grove High School.
On Thursday, Smith and Armstrong defeated Union County’s Dalton Creech and Logan Boone, 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the state tennis tournament doubles sectional championship match.
Smith (photo, right) and Armstrong (photo, left), now 21-2 this season, will face Perry Meridian’s Vincent Li and Hosea Sang for the berth in the regional tournament at Fishers on Oct. 19.
The Center Grove champions drew the Mt. Vernon sectional champions in the Fishers Regional semifinal round. The other semifinal pits the sectional winners at Columbus North and North Central.

New Palestine Sectional
Greenfield-Central 5, Shelbyville 0
Paige McCarley’s goal in the opening three minutes jump-started the Cougars to a second shutout victory over the Golden Bears this season.
That 1-0 lead held until halftime then McCarley set up Carly Means for the second goal in the 44th minute. Two minutes later, the same duo extended the lead to 3-0.
Oliviana Ferrara scored to make it 4-0 and Means finished off the hat trick to set the final score.
With the win, Greenfield-Central improved to 6-9 and will battle East Central in Saturday’s sectional championship match. Class 3A, No. 12 East Central defeated New Palestine Thursday, 2-0, to improve to 15-2-1 this season.
Shelbyville closed out the season at 5-11-1.
Monrovia Sectional
Triton Central 6, Hauser 0
The Tigers scored three goals in each half while Cheyenne Allen and Anabelle Beard combined for the shutout in goal to propel Triton Central into the sectional championship match.
Abby Byrd scored two goals. Ariel Walker had a goal and two assists. Jocelyn Oertel, Brynne Aukerman and Rylee Pruitt also had goals in the win.
Triton Central improved to 10-8 and will face Class A, No. 3 Monrovia in the sectional championship match at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Monrovia pushed its record to 17-1 Thursday with a 10-0 win over Greenwood Christian Academy. The Bulldogs have scored at least eight goals in 14 matches this season including a 9-0 win over Triton Central on Sept. 28.
Volleyball
Shelbyville def. Warren Central, 25-18, 25-19, 25-21
At Warren Central, the visiting Golden Bears ended a six-match losing streak with a sweep of the Warriors (4-18).
The Golden Bears improved to 6-20 and travel to Lawrence North Saturday morning for an invitational event.
Greenfield-Central def. Triton Central, 25-16, 25-14, 25-20
At Greenfield-Central, the host Cougars celebrated Senior Night with a victory over the Tigers (15-11), who have lost four straight.
Greenfield-Central improved to 20-9.
Triton Central travels to Morristown Saturday morning for the Shelby County Tournament.
