Two big swings of Addie Stieneker’s big blue bat provided more than enough run support for Cheyenne Eads in the pitcher’s circle.

The Marshall commit blasted a three-run home run in the home half of the first inning Saturday afternoon against Class 3A, No. 9 Yorktown and had a grand slam in the second inning to propel the Golden Bears to a 7-1 victory.

Eads scattered six hits and struck out nine Tigers (1-1, 0-1 Hoosier Heritage Conference) to improve Shelbyville to 4-4 (2-0 HHC) this season.

In the first off Yorktown starting pitcher Caitlin Laferney, who will pitch collegiately at Yale, Kali Laycock singled and Eads reached on an error to set up Stieneker’s first home run – her second of the season.

In the second, Gracie Crafton, Addysyn Wettrick singled and Eads walked to load the bases for Stieneker. Laferney pitched cautiously to Shelbyville’s two-time All-HHC selection but she blasted a 3-1 pitch over the right field wall for a 7-1 lead (photo).

Yorktown’s lone run came in the top of the second inning when Brooklyn Bartle and Olivia Jaromin each doubled.

Stieneker was intentionally walked in her third bat. She finished the conference contest with two hits, as did Laycock and Wettrick.

Shelbyville is at Greenwood (5-1) Monday before hosting Connersville (2-1)Tuesday for its “Pink Out” game.
