Four Spartans handled the scoring duties to get Southwestern girls basketball a season-opening 40-35 victory Thursday over Columbus Christian.
Tanna Tatlock led all scorers with 16 points. Maddie Barlow followed with nine points; Maci Murray had eight points and Emma Estes scored seven.
The Spartans outscored the Crusaders 14-5 in the second quarter to take a 20-11 lead at halftime.
Emma Murray led Columbus Christian (1-1) with 13 points. Olivia Wise finished with 11.
Southwestern is back in action Saturday at South Decatur.

Batesville 67, Triton Central 50
At Batesville, the Class 2A, No. 12 Tigers fell behind after one quarter and never recovered in a season-opening loss to the Bulldogs (1-0).
Maddie Haskamp and Sydney Campbell each scored 14 points for Batesville. Kaylin Kathmann had 12 points and Sophie Gesell and Marlee Obermeyer each added nine points.
The Bulldogs built a 16-12 lead after one quarter and extended the advantage to 33-28 at halftime and 52-39 after three quarters.
Maryrose Felling led Triton Central with a game-high 18 points. Katie Collier was the only other Tiger to score in double digits at 10 points.
Quinn King finished with nine and Layla Compton had eight.
Triton Central has its home opener Tuesday against Class 2A, No. 20 Heritage Christian.
Eastern Hancock 64, Morristown 40
At Eastern Hancock, the visiting Yellow Jackets stayed within reach at halftime of the 2A No. 10 Royals but could not mount a third-quarter comeback which resulted in a loss.
McKenzie Koch scored 34 points to lead Eastern Hancock (2-0) to its second win this season. Camryn Andrus finished with 11 points.
The Royals led 24-10 after the first quarter and 33-21 at halftime then outscored the Yellow Jackets 14-9 in the third quarter to build a 17-point lead.
Morristown will seek its first win of the season Tuesday at Class A, No. 13 Tri.
