A three-run third inning proved enough run support for Bryce Haney, who allowed three hits and three walks while striking out seven in a complete-game performance Wednesday to lead Class 2A, No. 4 Triton Central to a 3-2 victory over 2A No. 9 Cascade in Fairland.

The win elevated the Tigers (15-2, 9-1 Indiana Crossroads Conference) back to the top of the conference standings.

Noah Dasgupta took the loss for Cascade (12-3, 8-2 ICC) after allowing all three runs, only one was earned, and striking out seven.

Eli Sego had a run-scoring double in the third inning and scored as well. Janssen Capps and Brayden Hoover also singled and scored in the inning.

Baseball

Shelbyville 11, Yorktown 6

At Yorktown, the visiting Golden Bears put six runs on the scoreboard in the first three innings and Gavyn Fisher and Luke Brinkman kept the Tigers in check for a sweep of the Hoosier Heritage Conference two-game series.

Fisher pitched the first five innings and scattered seven hits that netted two runs. Brinkman pitched the final two innings to close out the win.

Fisher had a double and drove in three runs. Kohen Myers, Aiden Smith an Dalton Jones each had two hits.

Landen Eppard took the loss for Yorktown (9-8, 4-8 HHC), allowing seven runs in 4.2 innings of work.

Shelbyville improved to 9-7 (6-4 HHC).

Edinburgh 7, Southwestern 6

At Edinburgh, Avynn Whitaker had three hits, scored two runs and drove in a run to help the Lancers get a two-game sweep of the Spartans (1-11, 1-9 Mid-Hoosier Conference).

Jared Myers earned the win after taking over for Whitaker on the mound in the first inning as the Spartans raced out to a 2-0 lead. He allowed seven hits and three walks while striking out five in 6.2 innings of work.

Edinburgh improved to 10-5-1 (4-3 MHC).

Boys golf

Speedway 162, Triton Central 175, Beech Grove 254

At Brickyard Crossing, Triton Central split a meet featuring a trio of ICC squads.

Derreck Uhls led the Tigers with a season-low round of 40 that left him runner-up in the individual standings. Chase Chandler finished fifth at 42.

Completing the Triton Central scorecard were Colton Ayers (46), Max Ray (47) and Taggy Goul (57).

Softball

North Decatur 16, Waldron 0

At Waldron, a six-run first inning jumpstarted the Chargers in the MHC contest. 

Maddie Hungerford started in the pitcher’s circle for Waldron (5-3, 2-3 MHC) and took the loss.

North Decatur stayed atop the MHC standings, improving to 6-4 overall and 5-0 against conference foes.

Triton Central 5, Knightstown 0

At Knightstown, Triton Central scored three runs in the first inning and added two more in the seventh to defeat the Panthers (3-10).

Brylie Couch had a two-run home run and Gracie Craig, Madi Peterson and Hailey Harris had doubles to help Triton Central improve to 6-6.

Lilli Fillippinie tossed a four-hit shutout with 15 strikeouts.

Girls tennis

Triton Central 5, Edinburgh 0

Triton Central lost just one game in sweeping the doubles matches. 

At No. 1 singles, Maryrose Felling defeated Jessica Walsh, 6-4, 6-3.

Ellie Gast produced a win at No. 2 singles over Izzy Richardson, 6-2, 6-1.

Anniston Evans was victorious at No. 3 singles over Zoey Sida, 6-2, 6-2.
