Prep Report: TC, Morristown golfers end season at sectional

The high school golf season came to a close Monday for the Triton Central and Morristown programs.

Mt. Vernon (316), New Palestine (326) and Greenfield-Central (333) advanced out of the Greenfield-Central Sectional Monday at Hawk’s Tail Golf Course.

In addition, Shenandoah’s Cohen Shores (78) and Eastern Hancock’s Parker Atkins (80) and Zach Stephens (83) qualified for the Muncie Central Regional that will be played Thursday at The Players Club in Muncie.

Triton Central finished eighth in the team standings at 375.

Chase Chandler led the Tigers with an 85. Derreck Uhls followed at 89. Garrett Eberhardt carded 100 and Maxwell Ray and Colton Ayers completed the scorecard at 101 and 103, respectively.

Morristown had three golfers compete at the sectional. Eli Graves finished at 100. Michael Ballinger shot 128 and Ethan Tryon posted 133.

Shelbyville

The Golden Bears finished third at the Greensburg Sectional Friday and will compete Thursday at the Providence Regional at Champions Pointe Golf Course in Henryville.

The top three teams and the top three low individual scores from a non-advancing team will qualify for the state championship meet on June 11-12 at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.

Futures Game

Many of the state’s top freshmen and sophomores traveled to Hamilton Southeastern Monday for the Futures Game.

Team South secured a come-from-behind 116-113 victory over Team North.

Triton Central sophomore Eli Sego scored seven points on 3-of-6 shooting and had two steals in 14 minutes of action for Team South.

Evansville Reitz freshman Jaylan Mitchell, ranked as one of the nation’s top players in the Class of 2027, led Team South with 22 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Mt. Vernon sophomore Julien Smith had 20 points for Team South.
