Prep Report: Triton Central shuts out Heritage Christian to advance to softball sectional championship game

Brylie Couch threw a seven-inning, no-hitter and allowed just two base runners total Tuesday to propel Triton Central into the Class 2A, Sectional 14 championship game.

The Tigers scored three runs in the first inning and four more in the second to quickly take a 7-0 lead over Heritage Christian then cruised to a 9-0 semifinal-round victory.

Lilli Fillippinie drove in three runs while Madi Peterson, Madison Collins and Jayda McKee each had two hits.

In the other semifinal game Tuesday at the Heritage Christian Sectional, Indianapolis Scecina produced a second-straight offensive explosion, defeating Irvington Prep, 22-8. The Crusaders opened their postseason Monday with a 21-2 win over Christel House.

The sectional championship game between Triton Central (15-8) and Scecina (9-10) is today. The winner will host the regional championship game on May 28.

Boys golf

Mt. Vernon 159, Shelbyville 166

At Blue Bear Golf Course in Shelbyville, freshman Logan Tobian led the host Golden Bears with a 39 to share the medalist honor with Mt. Vernon’s Brady Pearson and Jace Lugar.

Also on the Shelbyville scorecard were Logan Reinhart (41), Jake Garrison (42), Damiles McDuffey (44) and Brock Wischmeyer (44).

Girls tennis

Center Grove Regional

Roncalli 4, Triton Central 1

Anniston Evans produced Triton Central’s only match win – a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles in the regional semifinal match.

Roncalli lost just two games in winning at No. 1 singles and No. 2 singles and swept both doubles matches in straight sets to bring an end to Triton Central’s season.

Shelbyville’s No. 1 doubles team of Sydney Baker and Sophia Asher take on Center Grove’s Ava Beecher and Lauren Dick today in the state doubles sectional tournament.

Waldron’s No. 1 singles player Emerson Lindsey does not yet have an opponent to begin the state singles tournament.

Girls track

Shelbyville Regional

Shelbyville freshman Sonora O’Connor finished 15th in the 300-meter hurdles in 50.77 seconds at McKeand Stadium at the Dennis Hearne Shelbyville High School track.

Morristown freshman Brooklyn Carlton tied for 11th in the high jump with a best clearance of four feet, 10 inches.
