
The Triton Central bats were cold and wet Thursday at New Palestine.
In the softball season opener for the Tigers, New Palestine’s Sadey Hughbanks tossed a five-inning no-hitter to defeat Triton Central, 10-0.
Hughbanks walked six and struck out 10 while not allowing a hit to improve to 2-0 this season.
Brylie Couch took the loss for Triton Central. She allowed five hits and four walks while striking out three in rainy conditions. Lillian Fillippinie allowed three hits and struck out three in a relief performance.
A six-run third inning broke the game open for the Dragons.
Payton Dye had three hits, scored two runs and drove in two to lead New Palestine (2-0). Hughbanks also had two hits.
Triton Central returns to action Monday in its home opener against Greenfield-Central (1-1).

Shelbyville traveled to Monrovia where rain forced the cancellation of the high jump, long jump and pole vault events.
Event winners for the Golden Bears were Sonora O’Connor (100 hurdles), Jordyn Noe (300 hurdles) and Macey Robbins (800) in the girls meet.
Logan Page crossed the finish line first in the 200 and Shia Veach won both the 1,600 and 3,200 for Shelbyville.
The Golden Bears travel to Franklin Tuesday for a triangular meet that includes East Central.
