
Triton Central girls tennis opened the season with a pair of wins Saturday over Pendleton Heights and Greenwood.
The Tigers blanked Pendleton Heights, 5-0.
At No. 1 singles, Anniston Evans defeated Sarah Ghosh, 6-2, 6-2. Ellie Gast was victorious at No. 2 singles over Amelia Saunder, 6-4, 6-0. And Estelle Gearlds secured a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles over Adri Martin.
At No. 1 doubles, Neva Kahler and Katie Collier cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Addie Aldredge and Sophia Sorrels.
Caydence Stout and Cadence Roberts scored a 6-3, 6-2 win over Riegan Friedman and Jocelyn Brown at No. 2 doubles.
Triton Central got junior varsity doubles victories from the pairings of Kaylynn Washburn and Allison Howley, and Pia Roemling and Keely O’Gara.
Greenwood’s only match victory in a 4-1 loss to Triton Central came at No. 2 doubles where Paige Glynn and Atley Jacks defeated Roberts and Stout, 6-3, 6-2.
The No. 1 doubles match went three sets before Kahler and Collier prevailed over Moriah Ellington and Mia Shaffer, 6-1, 1-6, 11-9.
Triton Central won all three singles matches in straight sets.
Evans defeated Kate Boyce, 6-3, 7-5. Gast topped Lola Trent, 6-2, 6-4. And Gearlds rolled to a 6-1 6-2 win over Annika Shaffer.

Baseball
Waldron 13, Brown County 9
At Waldron, the Mohawks scored three runs in each of the first two innings and added sixth in the fifth to secure their first win of the season.
J.D. Smith led Waldron (1-2) with four hits and three runs scored. Jackson Kuhn had two hits and two RBI. Jordan Bennett drove in three runs.
Hunter Dodson pitched the first four innings to earn the win. The junior allowed five hits and four walks while striking out four. Charlie Fischer and Kuhn helped close out the win.
Brown County dropped to 0-2.
Waldron hosts Crothersville (0-2) Tuesday.
Providence 10, Triton Central 0
At Providence, the visiting Tigers were limited to just two hits by Providence pitcher Gavin Jackson, who twirled a five-inning shutout.
The Pioneers (4-1) scored three runs in the first and five in the second to take control of the contest.
Hayden May took the loss for Triton Central (2-2). He worked one inning and allowed two hits, five walks and seven runs.
The Tigers host Speedway (0-4-1) Tuesday.
Boys golf
Yorktown Invitational
Jake Garrison shot 73 at The Players Club to finish third for Shelbyville in the Yorktown Invitational
Noblesville won the team title, posting 294. Carmel was second at 303 and Pendleton Heights finished third (307). Shelbyville shot 347.
Mt. Vernon’s Elijah Lemmons was the medalist with a 68.
Also scoring for Shelbyville were Logan Reinhart (83), Brock Wischmeyer (89) and Ethan Hughes (102).
Softball
Morristown 19, Irvington Prep 6
At Irvington Prep, the visiting Yellow Jackets scored five runs in the fifth then added nine in the seventh to secure the win.
Nevaeh Cox had five hits and five RBI. Mykynzy Smith and Ayvah Weir each had three RBI.
Abby Hawk allowed four hits and six walks in a complete game performance. She struck out 10 Ravens (0-2).
Morristown (2-2) is at Knightstown (1-2) Tuesday.
Triton Central 7, Tri-West 2
At Tri-West, Brylie Couch allowed four hits and struck out eight to lead the Tigers to the win.
Lillian Fillippinie had a home run and drove in four. Jayda McKee finished with three hits and scored three runs.
Triton Central (2-1) is at Eastern Hancock (2-4) Monday.
Boys volleyball
Heritage Christian def. Shelbyville, 25-27, 25-22, 25-22, 25-23
At Garrett Gymnasium in Shelbyville, Drake Tillison led the Golden Bears with 17 kills.
Corbin Deck finished with 13 kills, two service aces and a team-high 25 digs.
Layne Pogue collected 28 assists.
Shelbyville (2-7) hosts Indianapolis Washington Monday.
Track and Field
Waldron Invitational
The host Mohawks won the boys team title with 97 points. Switzerland County was runner-up (77). Morristown finished seventh (38).
Waldron’s Will Larrison won the 800 in 2:03.32 and the 1,600 in 4:43.37. The senior also teamed with Jared Crosby, Lucas Shaw and Tad Crosby to win the 1,600 relay in 3:35.31.
Tad Crosby won the 400 in 54.14.
Morristown had two individual event winners in Arik Trattner (18-3 in long jump) and Colston Allford (6-2 in high jump).
Morristown finished runner-up (70) in the girls team standings behind Switzerland County (145). Waldron finished seventh (19).
Morristown’s lone event winner was Sawyer Rogers in the 100 hurdles (16.84).
Waldron’s Brooklyn Milbourn won the discus with a top throw of 93-7.
Greenfield-Central Triangular
Shelbyville battled New Palestine and the host Cougars in a three-team event.
Shelbyville’s event winners in the boys meet were Blake Hughes (50.97 in 400) and Shia Veach (10.18.11 in the 3,200).
Earning runner-up points were Jaylen Eads (12-0 in pole vault) and the 1,600 relay team of Logan Page, Christian Powell, Isaac Zermeno and Hughes. The quartet crossed the finish line in 3:35.25.
Shelbyville did not have an event winner in the girls meet but finishing runner-up were Macey Robbins (1:02.71 in the 400), Jordyn Noe (52.14 in 300 hurdles) and Chevelle Prather (7-6 in pole vault.
The foursome of Robbins, Noe, Diana Gasca and Alyna Castanon finished second in the 1,600 relay in 4:25.56.
