Prep Report: Triton Central wins final Indiana Crossroads Conference game

A strong second half secured Triton Central its final Indiana Crossroads Conference victory Friday at Speedway.

The Sparkplugs led Triton Central 21-14 at halftime after Drew Matelic scored 12 of his team-high 18 points in the second quarter.

The Tigers responded with an 18-point third quarter to take a 32-31 lead going into the final eight minutes.

Eli Sego scored 10 points in the fourth quarter and finished with a game-high 22 to propel Triton Central to a 46-44 victory.

Cael Butler finished with 10 points for Triton Central.

Triton Central (13-9, 4-3 ICC) and Speedway (2-19, 2-5) will join fellow ICC members Beech Grove and Monrovia in the newly-forming Hoosier Legends Conference this fall. The quartet will be immediately joined by Indian Creek and Tri-West in the fall, while Shelbyville and Greenwood will follow in the fall of 2026.

Triton Central begins the postseason Tuesday at the Christel House Sectional. The Tigers face Heritage Christian (8-13) at 6 p.m. with the winner advancing to face Christel House (14-9) in the semifinals Friday.

Triton Central defeated Heritage Christian, 54-40 on Jan. 17.

In other prep basketball games Friday:

Morristown 65, Elwood 45

At Elwood, the visiting Yellow Jackets outscored Elwood 19-2 in the second quarter and never trailed again. The halftime lead of 34-16 grew to 54-26 after three quarters.

Kellen Crim scored a game-high 25 points for Morristown (10-12). Colin Kieninger finished with 12 points and Brayden Keithley scored 10.

Jayden Mullins led Elwood (5-18) with 16 points.

Morristown’s postseason begins Wednesday at Edinburgh High School at 7:30 p.m. against South Decatur (5-18). The Yellow Jackets defeated South Decatur 59-55 on Feb. 6.

Sheridan 67, Waldron 45

At Waldron, Sheridan put up 24 points in the first quarter and never trailed again. The Blackhawks led by 14 points at the end of the first eight minutes and extended that lead to 43-24 by halftime.

Trey Page hit seven three-pointers to finish with a game-high 30 points. Caleb Wright added 17.

Three different Waldron players – Parker Douglas, Eli Stewart and Ethan Moody -- each scored 10 points in the loss.

Waldron (11-11) faces Southwestern (10-13) in the Edinburgh Sectional opener Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Mohawks are 2-0 this season against the Spartans, securing wins of 45-44 (Dec. 21) and 56-19 (Jan. 31).

Anderson Prep 75, Southwestern 43

At Southwestern, Lincoln Fathauer was one of four Jets to score in double figures to defeat the Spartans.

Fathauer finished with 14 points which helped him break Anderson Prep’s program record for career points scored. He will enter the postseason with 1,156 points.

Zamarion Bryant led the Jets (18-5) with 24 points. Markus McClain followed with 18 and Camron Anderson finished with 14.

Ben Kahler scored a team-high 26 points for Southwestern (10-13). The senior moved up to No. 7 all-time on the Spartans’ career scoring list with 1,064 points. He passed Aiden Hartsell (1,051) and needs 14 points to pass Rick Parmer (1,077) for No. 6 on the list.

The winner of the Waldron-Southwestern game Tuesday will earn a semifinal berth Friday against either North Decatur (11-13) or Knightstown (3-18).
