Prep Report: Waldron wins county cross country meet championships

Waldron won both Shelby County Cross Country Meet championships Saturday morning at the Blue River Cross Country Course at Blue River Memorial Park in Shelbyville.

Waldron was the only school to field the required five runners to complete a team score.

In the boys 5K race, Waldron had the top three finishers in Will Larrison (17 minutes, 48 seconds), Jared Crosby (18:21) and Nathaniel Evans (18:56). Rounding out the Mohawks’ team score were Jacob Kuhn (25:15) and Spencer Armstrong (25:34).

Waldron had three of the top six finishers in the girls race to secure the team title. Riley Price won the race in 25:07. Fellow Mohawks Kassidy Meulen (26:50) and Jackie Corlett (26:53) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Completing the Waldron roster were Avery Haehl (29:10) and Sophie Hudnall (31:04).

A trio of Yellow Jackets followed Price across the finish line Saturday. Grace McLaughlin was runner-up in 26:09. Audrey VanDyke finished third in 26:27 and Brooke Kuhn was a close fourth in 26:39.

Morristown’s Remi Spicklemire completed the course in 27:45.

Kaylee King (31:36) and Kyndra King (31:36) represented Southwestern.

Triton Central did not have an entrant in the girls race.

In the boys race, Morristown’s Lakshdeep Singh (19:08) and Ryan Crisman (19:26) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

Southwestern’s Chris Claiborne was sixth in 21:02.

Triton Central’s Hunter Franklin (26:23) and Max Tupper (26:24) nearly crossed the finish line together.

Morristown’s roster was rounded out by Evan Trittipo (26:45) and Bradley Theobald (27:32).

Southwestern also was represented by Gavin Harrison (32:16).

Morristown won both county championships in the junior high division Saturday morning.

Morristown was the only full boys squad. Jasen Tweedy won the race in 12:30. Also completing the Yellow Jackets’ team score were Jack Hauk (12:59), Carter Bell (13:10), Jack Kuhn (14:15) and Emmett Perez (14:43).

Triton Central’s Gavin Bailey (12:37) and Hudson Watson (12:49) finished second and third, respectively.

Morristown had six of the top eight finishers in the girls race to secure the team title with 20 points. Triton Central (55) and Waldron (58) finished second and third.

Morristown’s Jo Kuhn won the girls race in 12:33. Her teammate, Gracie Theobald, was runner-up in 13:17.

Also competing for Morristown were Aleah Hauk (13:57), Macy Schultz (14:23), Lizzy Atkins (14:34), Rylen Carlton (14:36), Greenly Theobald (15:12), India Kaur (15:20) and Madison Richardson (15:51).

Waldron’s Anna Stanton finished third in 13:34.

Triton Central’s Dannahi Lopez placed fifth in 14:06.

Nike Twilight Invitational

At LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute Friday, Shelbyville secured a pair of top-20 team finishes in the standings.

The boys program placed 17th with strong performances from Shia Veach (17 minutes, 23 seconds) and Logan Reinhart (18:02). Ethan Coffey, Isaac Zermeno, Anderson Mollenkopf and Austin Boring all ran personal-best times.

Shelbyville’s girls program finished 10th overall. Macey Robbins clocked a personal-best time of 20:59 and finished 19th overall in the field.

Aerin Garcia-Santiago was the next Golden Bear across the finish line in 23:08. Kat Seal and Avery Keller ran personal-best times.

Girls soccer

Yorktown 2, Shelbyville 1, OT

At Yorktown Saturday, Annie Mote’s second-half goal tied the Hoosier Heritage Conference contest and sent it to overtime.

Kaylin Tate then scored the game-winner with 28 seconds left in overtime to improve the Tigers to 8-6-2 (2-5).

The visiting Golden Bears closed out the regular-season schedule with a 5-10-1 record (1-6 HHC).

Shelbyville opens the New Palestine Sectional Thursday with a semifinal-round match against Greenfield-Central (5-9). The Cougars defeated the Golden Bears, 5-0, on Sept. 25.

On Tuesday, Class 3A, No. 12 East Central faces Richmond with the winner advancing to Thursday’s semifinal to face New Palestine.

Greensburg 2, Triton Central 1

At Greensburg Saturday, Genevieve Smith and Kadence Rich each scored a goal to lead the Pirates past the Tigers in the regular-season finale for Triton Central (8-8).

Madeline Shrader was credited with 10 saves for Greensburg (8-8).

Rylee Pruitt had the lone goal for the Tigers. Cheyenne Allen had seven saves in goal.

Triton Central opens the postseason Tuesday at the Monrovia Sectional at 6 p.m. against Brown County (3-6). The winner returns to Monrovia Thursday to face Hauser (3-11-4).

The other half of the sectional tournament includes Providence Cristo Rey taking on the host, Class A, No. 5 Bulldogs; and Indianapolis Washington battling Greenwood Christian Academy.

Volleyball

East Central def. Shelbyville, 25-18, 25-18, 25-16

At Garrett Gymnasium Saturday, the host Golden Bears played their final home match of the regular-season and were swept by the Trojans.

East Central improved to 9-17 while Shelbyville fell to 5-19.

Southwestern def. Waldron, 25-20, 26-28, 25-17, 25-19

At Waldron Friday, Emerson Lindsey led the host Mohawks with 17 kills, two service aces and 24 digs.

Lilli Lozier added seven kills, three aces and 23 digs. Jordyn Kropp had 21 digs.

Ashlyn Ramsey and Lauren Strehle combined for 27 assists.

Waldron dropped to 3-20 (1-5 Mid-Hoosier Conference).

Southwestern improved to 15-12 (4-1 MHC).
