The pairings for the 2025 Shelby County Basketball Tournament are set.
The basketball coaches and athletic directors at the four participating schools met Monday morning in Shelbyville to draw the pairings and finalize the annual event.
Triton Central is the host school this year.
The girls tournament semifinal games are Jan. 9 in Fairland. The boys tournament semifinals are the following night.
Both championship games will be played on Jan. 11 at Triton Central. The host Tigers are the defending champions in both tournaments.
The girls tournament will begin at 6 p.m. on Jan. 9 with Southwestern (2-7) taking on Waldron (4-4). Those two teams met on Nov. 15 with Waldron prevailing 53-31.
The second semifinal pits the host Tigers (3-5) against Morristown (4-6). The Yellow Jackets lost to Triton Central, 50-45, on Nov. 27.
The girls tournament championship game will be at 6 p.m. on Jan. 11.
The first boys semifinal game on Jan. 10 will have Southwestern (0-3) battling Morristown (1-3). It will be the first meeting of the season between the Spartans and Yellow Jackets, who have a regular-season meeting scheduled for Feb. 13.
The second semifinal has the host Tigers (3-1) taking on Waldron (0-3). Triton Central defeated the Mohawks, 60-47, on Thursday.
In fact, Triton Central’s three wins this season have come against the Shelby County Tournament field. The Tigers defeated Morristown, 64-35, on Nov. 27 in the season opener for both teams. And the Tigers topped Southwestern Saturday night, 61-44.
The boys tournament championship game is slated for 8 p.m. on Jan. 11 following the conclusion of the girls basketball tournament championship celebration ceremony.
