Shelbyville and Triton Central now know what it will take to repeat as softball sectional champions. Morristown and Waldron similarly know the path to celebrating each program’s first sectional title.
The Indiana High School Athletic Association announced the sectional pairings Sunday night for the 39th Annual State Softball Tournament.
Sectional games run from May 20-25.
Shelbyville
The Golden Bears defeated Columbus North in the 2023 Class 4A, Sectional 14 championship game to capture back-to-back sectional titles.
Those two teams will meet in the second quarterfinal contest at the Columbus East Sectional. Shelbyville (11-5) and Columbus North (6-6) have not yet met this season. The winner advances to face East Central (6-5), who Shelbyville defeated 2-1 in eight innings Saturday.
In the other half of the bracket, the host Olympians (7-11) take on Franklin (9-7) with the winner advancing to the semifinal round to face Whiteland (8-7).
The Sectional 14 champion will host the regional championship game against the Sectional 13 champion on May 28.
Triton Central
The Tigers, the defending sectional champion, received a quarterfinal round bye for Class 2A, Sectional 42 at Heritage Christian.
Triton Central (4-6) will face the winner of the opening game – Park Tudor (2-0) or the host Eagles (7-4).
Irvington Prep (3-2) also received a bye and will face the winner of Christel House (3-2) and Indianapolis Scecina (4-7).
The Sectional 42 champion will host the Sectional 41 champion in a one-game regional on May 28.
Morristown
At Class A, Sectional 59 at Indianapolis Lutheran, Morristown will open the four-team sectional against a Mid-Hoosier Conference rival in Edinburgh (2-9).
The Lancers swept a doubleheader from Morristown (3-7) just last week.
In the other semifinal, the host Saints (9-4), ranked No. 8 in the state coaches poll, will take on Greenwood Christian (2-5).
Waldron
Waldron (4-2) will take on Jac-Cen-Del (5-7) in the lone quarterfinal game at Sectional 60 at North Decatur. The winner advances to play Oldenburg Academy (1-9) in the semifinal round.
In the other semifinal, North Decatur (5-4) hosts South Decatur (2-7).
The Sectional 60 champion will host the Sectional 59 champion on May 28 in a one-game regional championship.
