Shelbyville boys golf extended its season another week with a third-place finish Friday at the Greensburg Sectional.
Columbus North captured the sectional title with a 304 team score at the Greensburg Country Club. Columbus East was runner-up at 318 and the Golden Bears grabbed the third advancing position with a 327 to edge Batesville (330) by three strokes.
With that performance, Shelbyville will travel to Champions Pointe Golf Club in Henryville Thursday for one of six IHSAA regional tournaments.
The top three low individual scorers from a non-advancing team also qualified for the Providence Regional in Henryville. There were North Decatur’s Owen Eldridge (77), East Central’s Ethan Moorman (78) and North Decatur’s Jack Koehne (79).
Shelbyville’s Jake Garrison and Columbus North’s Joseph Perkins and Brady Schneider each shot 74 to tie for the medalist honor. In the playoff, Perkins birdied the first playoff hole to be crowned sectional champion. Garrison was runner-up with a par while Schneider bogeyed the playoff hole.
Completing the team scoreboard were North Decatur (331), East Central (337), Milan (351), Greensburg (355), Jac-Cen-Del (368), Waldron (379) and Hauser (448). South Ripley, Southwestern and South Decatur did not fill complete teams.
Isaiah Jones led Waldron with a 84. Lucas Shaw was three shots back at 87. Gage Kropp (100) and Matthew Thomas (108) completed the Mohawks’ scorecard.
Southwestern’s Eli Smith shot 103.
