The 20-player All-Hoosier Heritage Conference Baseball Team includes a pair of Golden Bears.
Shelbyville junior Gavyn Fisher and sophomore Aiden Smith were awarded the postseason honor based on their performances this past season.
Fisher finished 7-0 for Shelbyville with a 1.58 earned run average over 53 innings on the mound. He had 60 strikeouts and just 14 walks.
This is the second all-conference award for Smith who went 4-3 on the mound with a 1.87 earned run average over 48.2 innings. He had a single-season program record 82 strikeouts and walked just 19. Smith also hit .346 at the plate with three doubles, two triples, two home runs and a team-high 25 runs scored.
Hoosier Heritage Conference champion Mt. Vernon had four players named All-Conference. They are Nathan Criss, Jack Peine, Tristan Sutton and Cam Sullivan.
Conference runner-up New Palestine also had four selections – Jackson Kamp, Rigg Mahurin, Jacob Morris and Michael Thorpe.
Also named All-HHC are Delta’s Zane Cline, Campbell Light and Kayden Thomas, Greenfield-Central’s Landon Brooks, Zander Cobb and Kirk Knecht, Pendleton Heights’ Ty Frakes, Brayden Stevenson and Jordan Williamson, and Yorktown’s Landon Eppard.
Mt. Vernon (18-8) won the HHC title with a 12-2 record. New Palestine (25-5) was one game back at 11-3.
Shelbyville (16-9, 9-5 HHC) was third ahead of Greenfield-Central (13-14, 7-7), Delta (21-8, 6-8), Pendleton Heights (17-11, 6-8), Yorktown (12-15, 4-10) and New Castle (7-21, 1-13).
New Palestine head coach Shawn Lyons was named Coach of the Year.
New Palestine and Delta are still competing in the IHSAA state tournament. New Palestine takes on Mooresville Saturday at 11 a.m. in the first game of the Mooresville Semistate. The other semifinal pits Floyd Central against Avon.
Delta also plays at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Kokomo Semistate against Twin Lakes. The other semifinal is Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger against New Prairie.
