Prep Report: Shelbyville stuns Greenfield-Central to sit alone atop HHC standings

Shelbyville now controls its destiny in pursuit of a Hoosier Heritage Conference championship.

Maddy Jones made six three-pointers, including four in the second quarter, to lead the Golden Bears to a 48-43 victory over Greenfield-Central Tuesday night at William L. Garrett Gymnasium.

The win pushed Shelbyville to 6-4 overall and, more importantly, 3-0 against HHC foes. The Golden Bears are the only unbeaten team left in the HHC standings.

Jones (photo, center with chain around neck) finished with a game-high 20 points. Hannah Baker and Savannah Collins each scored nine.

Chaney Brown scored six first-quarter points to help the visiting Cougars (8-3, 2-1 HHC) build a 16-9 lead at the first break.

Jones rallied the Golden Bears in the second quarter to a 27-24 halftime advantage.

Izzy Silcox hit a pair of 3s in the third quarter to get Greenfield-Central within two, 39-37, going into the final quarter.

Shelbyville made 4-of-8 free throws over the last eight minutes and Addy Marshall hit a 3 to secure the victory.

Silcox led the Cougars with 16 points. Brown finished with nine points and 11 rebounds. Madison Sonsini, a Spring Arbor University commit, had six points and 15 rebounds.

Shelbyville won the junior varsity game, 38-37.

The Golden Bears have rebounded from a three-game losing streak to win three straight. They host Franklin (6-7) Saturday afternoon at Garrett Gymnasium.

Morristown 63, Southwestern 6

At Morristown, Nevaeh Sanders shot 10-of-15 from the field to score a game-high 21 points and lead the Yellow Jackets to their fourth-straight win.

Danika Rutledge added 12 points for Morristown (6-6, 4-0 Mid-Hoosier Conference) and Emma Nelson finished with 11.

The Yellow Jackets led 21-2 at the end of the first quarter and held the Spartans scoreless in the second quarter.

Southwestern played without leading scorer Tanna Tatlock (14 ppg, 10.5 rpg). Hayden Ramey led the Spartans (2-10, 0-4 MHC) with three points.

Southwestern is at Indianapolis Lutheran (2-6) Friday. Morristown travels to Traders Point Christian (3-6) Friday.
