This is the first season girls wrestling has competed as a sanctioned sport under the IHSAA banner.

Fourteen weight classes will be contested with 16 girls in each bracket.

Quarterfinal and semifinal round matches will immediately follow the conclusion of the first round.

Following an intermission, the consolation round is scheduled to begin at 4:15 p.m.

State championship matches start at 7 p.m.

Shelbyville sophomore Jessica Price (19-8 this season) will take to the mat early Friday at 105 pounds. She will face Lafayette Jefferson’s Senniah Henderson (21-6), a senior, in an opening-round match.

The winner will face either Griffith’s Grace Pinkelton (20-2) or Shenandoah’s Karsyn Merritt (17-7) in a quarterfinal round match.

Of the 16 wrestlers in the 105-pound bracket, 11 are state ranked, including Henderson (No. 11) and Pinkelton (No. 6).

Triton Central sophomore Zoie Gray (15-5) will take the mat later in the opening round at 190 pounds. She will compete against Rensselaer Central’s Stacia Crabtree (34-2), also a sophomore, with the winner advancing to face either Tristalyn Powers (21-1), of Terre Haute South, or Owen Valley’s Maisy Pendleton (16-11) in the quarterfinal round.

There are 11 state-ranked wrestlers competing at 190 pounds, including Crabtree (No. 2) and Powers (No. 7).

Competitors that lose their first-round matches are eliminated from the event. A loss in the quarterfinal round drops those wrestlers into the consolation round to vie for 5th through 8th place.
