Let the preseason hype for Triton Central baseball commence.
The Tigers won 24 games last season, return a pair of left-handed aces and much of its roster. And they will start the season in early April as a top-5 ranked program in Class 2A.
The Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA) and Prep Baseball Indiana have released preseason polls for each of the four classes.
Triton Central and Providence share the top preseason ranking in Class 2A. Providence is No. 1 in the Prep Baseball Indiana Class 2A poll. Triton Central is No. 5.
Following Triton Central and Providence in the IHSBCA poll are Lafayette Central Catholic, Barr-Reeve, North Posey, Greencastle, Boone Grove, Rochester, Forest Park and Westview.
The Prep Baseball Indiana poll has Providence at the top followed by Boone Grove, University, North Posey, Triton Central, Greencastle, Evansville Mater Dei, Shenandoah, Barr-Reeve and Lafayette Central Catholic.
Triton Central’s pitching staff is topped by a pair of lefties in Vincennes University recruit Hayden May (10-1, 2.11 earned run average, 53 innings pitched, 92 strikeouts in 2024) and Bryce Haney (7-1, 2.04 ERA, 48 IP, 66 Ks).
Head coach Justin Bergman also has six players returning that hit .373 or better with a combined 42 doubles and five home runs. And that list does not include May, who hit .494, and Haney, who hit .333, in the lineup.
The Tigers are scheduled to open the season on April 5 in Fairland against Northeastern.
