A pair of strong third-quarter performances led Triton Central to two victories Wednesday night against Morristown.
In the boys basketball season opener, the Tigers outscored the Yellow Jackets, 16-3, in the third quarter to extend a 13-point halftime advantage to 52-26, and then rolled to a 64-35 victory.
Five different Triton Central players scored at least nine points in the win. Grant Long, making his Triton Central debut after transferring from Franklin Central, led the team with 14 points. Max Crouse finished with 12 and Silas Blair added 11.
Eli Sego and Sam Collier each had nine points.
Kellen Crim led Morristown with 18 points. Brayden Keithley finished with nine points.
Morristown has its home opener Saturday against Eminence (0-1).
Triton Central is at Shelbyville (1-0) Saturday.
In the girls game, Morristown raced out to a 20-6 lead after one quarter but Triton Central slowly chipped away at the lead.
The Yellow Jackets were up 25-20 at halftime but got outscored in the third quarter 16-8 and never recovered to suffer a 50-45 loss in Fairland.
Maryrose Felling scored 26 of her game-high 30 points over the final three quarters to improve the Tigers to 2-4 this season.
Nevaeh Sanders scored nine points in the first quarter and finished with 18 for Morristown (2-6). Emma Nelson scored 10 points. Danika Rutledge had seven.
Morristown hosts Hagerstown (0-6) Tuesday.
Triton Central also returns to action Tuesday hosting Rushville (3-3).
